WAIT!!!!

This is the same email I sent out to everybody, but if for some reason you didn't get it, you should know that school is closed for afternoon and evening classes today, December 18th. That means no club today, and sadly, no pizza either. Sorry guys, we'll do something ultra awesome the first week of next quarter. WHICH, by the way, we are meeting both Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Something I would like from you guys to to give me a little critique about how the club is running. I have some experience with club leadership, but not enough. Tell me if there are any suggestions you have for the club. It won't change from the pencil tests and critiques, but any suggestions for how to run the club smoother would be much appreciated. Thank you all for your interest in this thing. It's something I think we need at ths school and I'm glad to have others support i as well. Everyone have a great vacation, and whatever holiday you are celebrating, do it well.

Merry Christmas!!!!
~Chad, your sovereign leader.

Its that time of the year!

Hello all, Katie here,

Today Lisa, Bev, Cody and I went out and bought a holiday gift for our awesome academic director, Roby Gilbert.

We got him some nice teas, hot chocolate, and a large chocolate fish (lol). Everything is all wrapped up and ready to be gifted, and there is a card that I would like to get as many people to sign as possible.

Cody fronted the money for the gift, which came to about 25 dollars, so we're asking that everyone make a contribution as close to 5 dollars as you can. If you can't, the gift is from the entirety of the UAC, and isn't about the money, so don't fret. However, even a Couple bucks to cody would be nice.

We're planning to give him the gift on Tuesday at about 4:30...but now that I think about it, that may change due to portfolio. Therefor, I think he will be at the pre-production meeting, Wednesday at 1 PM (this is portfolio day), and we can give it to him around that time. Once I get some imput on this, I'll be able to further figure it out.

Anyway, everyone should sign the card if they can, so let me know where you'll be this week and we'll work something out. Also, if you can bring cash for Cody next Thursday, that would be fantastic.

See you soon and enjoy finals week.

This week

We don't have anything specific we're gonna be working on this week, so just finish up something you've been working on o focus on your finals. Also, we'll be meeting only briefly in the Animation Labs because of Animation Holiday Jam.

Notice it said FREE PIZZA!!! This is VERY IMPORTANT!!! So the plan is to meet in the animation lab at 4:30 sharp, then we'll head over to the show. If you come to the animation lab and we're not there, just go straight to the photo studio. It's the area on the way to the delli on the left before you reach the cutout in the floor. Like the poster said, bring your pencil tests to show. We want to show what we do as a club.

Also, I need a banner for the top of the blog. Send me some sketches!

Sorry I didn't post that 3D guide thingy. Forgive me everyone!

Something else, it's been proposed to have a pizza party on our last meeting day also. If you would like to have it, please comment on this post. There was some interest shown this last meeting. I'll look into seeing if we can have it paid for by the "club fund" but if not, we may have to use our own moneys, just a few dollars each. Lemme know what you think.

ENJOY THE WEEK!!! Work hard.

Object in 3D Space

Hello People!

So, this week is the object in 3D space. You have free reign over the type of object you use, and what it does. Just make sure the object is simple and can be redrawn many many times. Try and keep it the same object throughout the animation. Make it go forwards and backwards in space and all over. I'll be uploading a background to help you think in 3D soon.

For those who are just joining us again, WELCOME BACK!!!!!! And if you want to you can start here, but I would advise you to go to the first post and do that. If you have questions, just let me know. Comment or send me an e-mail.
---------------------------------------------------
To the advanced, do a lip sync. Choose a sentence or something to animate a character talking to. Have fun with it.
---------------------------------------------------
ALSO!!! EVERYBODY!!!
Try to have everything shot before club starts so we can go full tilt into this. I'm excited to see what everyone brings!

Peace out!

Overlap!

Ok, so for you advanced peoples, we're working on our overlapping actions. The assignment...a ball with a tail, or something else with something secondary to animate. If you choose the ball, it should have a reason for being, an emotion. MAKE IT LIVE! Peace out.

Space ship!!!

Alright, this week is the SPACE SHIP! Plan it out and go! We're gonna start using a horizon line on our animations now because it gives the animation depth. Draw your horizon line on separate sheet of animation paper. This will be your background so don't animate on this. Just leave it behind what you're animating on. Remember to focus on the animation and not how cool you can make your space ship look. The more lines there are on it, the more things you have to animate. Here's the layout:

I challenge you to do the first pass of your animation, then shoot it and see what you could do yourself to make it better. Maybe the Space Ship moves too fast to get to it's holding spot, or maybe that exit looks too slow. Try a combination 1s, 2s and 3s to get different timing results.

This is all about anticipation, the action before the action. Go left before right, go up before down and so on. Make the wind up as extreme as possible, use your imagination, try different things.

IMPORTANT

Hello everybody. At the meeting today we discussed the meeting times for next quarter, and because of such awkward schedules throughout the members, we've decided to meet 2 days a week instead of just one. These days will be Tuesday and Thursday, same time, 4:30-5:30. Remember, this is NEXT quarter, not this quarter. This weeks info will be coming soon, probably not tonight, but tomorrow.

Fire Cycle

Hey, for the advanced group, this week we're working on a fire cycle. There are at least 15 drawings for it and remember, it's a cycle, so it should be able to play continuously. Have fun! OH! And feel free to make it as realistic or cartoony as you want. And try to have it shot before club starts so we can jump right into viewing and critiques. This should be cool! See you guys next week.

Bouncing Ball

Hey all! This week we're starting back at the beginning and doing the bouncing ball. Here's the layout that I did.

Start with the motion path, or the arcs that the ball is going to be moving on. Next, draw the Key poses of the ball: 1, 9, 15, 23, & 30. After that, fill in the rest of the balls. It should look like the picture. This exercise is to help figure out timing and spacing. One thing you should notice is that when the balls are at the top of the arcs and closer together, they are more round, and when they are further apart, they stretch. Once you've drawn the layout, start tracing each individual ball and test it out. The balls should all have the same volume so they look like the same ball.

Let's try to have everything shot and ready to view before club starts so we can jump right into the critiques. Can't wait to see whet your animations look like!

If you have questions or anything, you can write a comment on the blog or email me. PEACE!

~Chad

WELCOME!

Hey all! This is your President. Welcome to the club's blog! I'm really excited to be putting this up. This is an extension of the physical club and is mainly going to be used to show what we discussed and worked on in the meeting. I'll post what we're working on every week so if you miss a week, you'll still know what's going on. I also encourage everyone to post they're questions, remarks or even their animations for critiques. I hope to learn a lot through this club and I hope you will too. Let's make full use of this blog and grow to a whole new level of AMAZING!!! Talk to you guys again on Thursday!
